Grab All Accessories Needed to Clean Betta Tank
First of all, you need to gather all the accessories/tools which are used to clean a betta fish tank, without them you can make a mistake and in the result, your little betta would suffer. Most of the people just simply dump the old the old water out and pour the tap water right into their betta fish’s tank that plays a vital role to disturb their bettas and in its result the betta soon becomes sick.
To make sure that your betta remains calm and healthy, just have every needed tool and knowledge about cleaning their tanks! In order to clean your betta’s tank properly first gather the following accessories/tools.
- Cleaning Brush
- Catch Bucket
- Water Conditioner
- Betta Waste Remover
- Bucket/Container (for new water)
Wash Your Hands & Accessories
Before starting the cleaning process, don’t forget that keeping a pet like a betta require a high level of hygiene conditions if you want it to be healthy and happy with you! As keeping a betta fish is less costly or time-consuming but is all about responsibility and hygiene.
It is a good practice to wash your hands and other accessories/tools which you have gathered to wash the betta tank such as the cleaning brush.
Suction the Old Water in Betta Fish Tank
Before performing suction of the old water, you need to understand that it is not necessary to remove all of the old water in order to clean your betta’s tank, but you need to remove 25% of the water of tank twice or thrice a month.
In case anything drastic happens, only then you can replace all of the water of your betta fish’s tank. To remove the old water just follow the simple steps shared below so that you could do suction without any difficulty
- Get the Cover of the Tank Removed
- Plug Out Everything such as Heaters, Filters or even Lights in the Tank
- Remove all the Decoratives such as Rocks, Pebbles, Houses from Tank
- Place Catch Buket Close to it
- Place Suction Hose/ Tube into the Tank
- Remove all the Uneaten food by Dragging the Suction Hose Across the Gravel
There are some siphons in the market that has the facility of shaking the water that makes the flow of water more easier for the use. In case you do not have the comfy one, then you will need to put some extra effort to make the suction successful. Please be careful about the quantity of water you need to remove, if you will remove water more than 25 % then the healthy bacteria need for you fish would also be removed.
Prepare the New Water
Now you are done with the suction process of the old water of your betta fish tank, just start preparing the new water to add into the tank.
- Get a Clean Container/ Bucket
Make sure that this bucket is not used for any other household chores so that there will not be any possibility of containing toxic remaining from the cleaners.
- Gauge the Temperature of Water
If possible, make sure that the temperature of the water is 78 Deg. Check the accurate temperature of the new water thermometer. If the temperature of water varies please add/remove more water in/ from the bucket.
- Add Water Conditioner into the New Water
After checking the new water for the temperature, now is the time to treat it with the water conditioner. Remember, it is very important to eliminate any impurities in the tap water such as chlorine or fluoride.
Get the Decoratives Back into the Tank
Now you have completed all the necessary steps that will make sure that you are following all the norms for betta fish care while cleaning your betta’s tank. Let’s start putting everything back into the tank, please follow the sequence while putting everything back into the tank
- Add Small Rocks or Pebbles Back into the Tank First
- Use Siphon to Pour Water in the Tank
- Rinse or you can Replace the Filter if Needed
- Plug-In all the Stuff like Lights, Heater or Filter
